Marrakesh’s green lung, covering more than 13,000 hectares, realized under the Almoravide dynasty, the renowned Palmeraie of Marrakesh is home to more than 100,000 palm trees, which are irrigated thanks to a well thought-out canalisation system dating from the 12th century known as “khettaras”. Besides the production of dates, the palm trees also provide shade to the cultivated fields. The Palmeraie was, and still is, a spot for strolls and leisure. The grove is usually visited by calèche or by car. However, if you’re in a mood for an exciting and more sport-like visit, camel and quad rides are available.
The Palmeraie, a magic and magnificent site, accommodates upscale hotels, prestigious villas and even golf courses.
