Chichaoua celebrates the Amazigh New Year 2975 in photos in a festive and friendly atmosphere

An ancestral celebration in the heart of Morocco

Le 14th January 2025, the province of Chichaoua vibrated to the rhythm of the celebration of Amazigh New Year, Also known under the name of YennayerThis event marks the first day of the Amazigh calendar and is a unique opportunity to celebrate a culture that is several thousand years old and part of Moroccan identity.

Under the theme of the Bahja, synonymous with joie de vivre and conviviality, this first edition offered visitors an immersion in the richness of Amazigh heritage. Organized in partnership with the Chichaoua Province, the CRT Marrakech, the CPT Chichaoua and several local cooperatives, this celebration reflects the cultural diversity of Morocco and its attachment to traditions.

Women, guardians of Amazigh heritage

The event was also marked by the essential involvement of women activists from local cooperatives, true guardians and ambassadors of Amazigh heritage.

  • Azoud Fatima, founder of the Tifaouine Assif El Mal Cooperative, played a central role in organizing this event, mobilizing its expertise and energy to promote local crafts and traditions.
  • Cooperatives Ammas N'Boulaaouane, Titmatine Rbat Ida Ou Marzoug, Taouloukoult et Tazdimte also contributed to the success of this day, presenting their artisanal creations, local products and know-how, while sharing their commitment to the promotion of Amazigh culture and local development.

Their participation demonstrated the importance of women's role in preserving traditions and passing them on to future generations.

A rich and varied program

The festivities brought together residents, tourists and local stakeholders around a program that highlighted the best of Amazigh culture:

  • Local producers : Local cooperatives offered an exceptional exhibition of their creations, ranging from handicrafts to local products emblematic of the region.
  • Shows and folklore : Local troops of Rais andAhwach captivated the audience with traditional dances and songs, celebrating the cultural heritage of the region. A reenactment of the Amazigh wedding rites was also staged, offering an immersion in ancestral customs.
  • Authentic gastronomy : Tasting stands allowed visitors to savor typical Amazigh dishes, highlighting the unique flavors and local products.

A royal gesture in favor of Amazigh culture

This event is part of the historic royal decision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI to establish the January 14 as an official holidayThis gesture demonstrates the Kingdom's commitment to preserving and promoting Amazigh culture as a fundamental pillar of Moroccan identity.

Since the recognition of the Amazigh language as an official language in 2011, Morocco has multiplied initiatives to promote this culture. The celebration of Id Yennayer constitutes a major step in this dynamic.
