Route overview

  • Jamaa Elfna Square
  • Step 1

From Jamaa el Fna Square, take Rue des Banques on the right, then turn left onto Rue Arset Lam'ache. Next, head to Tinsmith Square, where you'll turn right to visit the Elbadia Palace, a site that has been in ruins since the 17th century. Coming out of Elbadia, turn left, then right, to take Bahia Street. Explore the Mellah district, rich in herbalists and fabrics, with the Jewish cemetery at its end.
Finally, on Bahia Street, discover the magnificent Bahia Palace, an iconic example of Arab-Andalusian architecture, surrounded by vast gardens and fountains.

  • Step 2

After leaving the Bahia Palace, turn right and enter Bahia Street. On your right, discover a charming riad transformed into a sub-Saharan museum by the anthropologist Bert Flint.

Continuing straight ahead, then turning left, at the end of the street is the Dâr Si-Said Museum of Popular Arts, showcasing carpets, pottery and jewelry. In this Arab-Andalusian riad, a magnificent garden patio is decorated with a Carrara marble fountain. As you leave the museum, you will see the Bahia fountain.

  • Step 3

Turn back towards the Place des Ferblantiers. From there, take the winding streets to the left towards the monumental Bab Agnaw gate, which opens onto the Saadian Kasbah district. On the esplanade, discover the great El Mansour mosque. To the right of the main gate you will find the entrance to the Saadian Tombs. Then take the first left, called rue Boutouil. Turn left again to take Rue du Palais Royal. Finally, turn right from Dar El-Makhzen (palace) to access the modest gate of the Agdal gardens.

  • Step 4

Follow the path leading to the royal palace towards the Mechouar gate. Continue straight along the wall until you reach the Bab Jdid fountain. Turning left, you will see the Menara pavilion from afar, accessible in around fifteen minutes on foot.
