Mellah Essaouira
The Mellah of Essaouira, the city's Jewish quarter, was established by its residents in 1764. This quarter, now known as Mellah, was officially built on the orders of Sultan Moulay Slimane in 1807 in response to the growth of the Jewish community which had been established since the founding of the city in 1764.
