Getting around Marrakech

There are several ways to get around Marrakech and visit the city: by car, on foot, by bike or by scooter.
If you are in a hurry or in hot weather, the ALSA bus network (urban and electric) of the city is well developed and inexpensive (4 dirhams each way). Taxis are also very efficient.
When you arrive at Marrakech-Menara airport, located 3 kilometers from the city, you have two choices for reaching the center: ALSA urban network shuttles, the bus n ° 19 running between 6h and 21h30, for a rate of 30 dirhams (passage every 20 minutes approximately). You can also borrow taxis, which are present at the airport day and night. Their prices are regulated and are displayed on a sticker. It will cost you 70 dirhams during the day and 100 dirhams at night, from the airport to the city center. Conversely, prices are more negotiable.
La rent a car is recommended if you stay in the Palmeraie or if you plan some excursions outside Marrakech. There are many car rental agencies. Like international brands such as Hertz, Sixt, Avis or Europcar, local agencies offer you quality service. Renting a small car costs around 30 euros a day.

Getting around the region

If you need to travel within the country, there are several train lines that serve major cities. The bus remains the cheapest means of transport, however, and local companies cover the whole territory.

Regular bus lines, from the ALSA company, allow you to reach cities located a few dozen kilometers from Marrakech. For longer distances, different providers offer trips to Essaouira, Safi, Agadir or Ouarzazate. The two main companies, Supr @ tours and CTM are particularly efficient. The first depends on the ONCF, the equivalent of the SNCF. The bus station is located at Bab Doukkala and it is in the lobby that you can get bus tickets.

By going to the taxi stations (there are several, the main ones are located near the Koutoubia, Sidi Mimoun and Bab Doukkala), it is possible to use a taxi by agreeing to the prior with the driver on the conditions. So-called “collective” taxis offer regular lines to cities around Marrakech. Transport conditions are somewhat spartan due to the sharing of the taxi with other passengers and you have to wait to reach the number of passengers to start.

In small groups of ten people, you can discover points of interest by traveling by minibus. The service generally includes transport, but also photo stops and visits to cooperatives. Many agencies exist in the medina and in the new city Guéliz. However, make sure of the sustainability of the business to avoid any inconvenience.
