Yves Mathieu-Saint-Laurent, known as Yves Saint Laurent is a big fashion designer French, one of the most famous in the world and whose haute couture collections are part of the history of the XNUMXth century.
It was in the 60s that he discovered Morocco where he bought the Majorelle garden in Marrakech fifteen years later.; tourist botanical garden of about 300 species on nearly 1 hectare it includes an Art Deco villa labeled Maisons des Illustres since 2011 and a museum of the History of the Berbers.
Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé discovered the Majorelle Garden in 1966, during their first stay in Marrakech: "We were seduced by this oasis where the colors of Matisse mingle with those of nature". They bought the Majorelle garden in 1980 (their third acquisition in the city of Marrakech). The new owners decided to live in the artist's villa, renamed Villa Oasis, and undertook major garden restoration work to “to make the Majorelle garden the most beautiful garden, the one that Jacques Majorelle had thought of, envisioned”. The painter's studio is transformed into a Berber museum open to the public, with an exhibition of Haute Couture works from the Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé collection.
In October 2017, the Majorelle Garden Foundation also inaugurated the Yves Saint Laurent Museum in Marrakech.
